Art Helps: Japan was a fundraiser created as a way for our widespread community of art lovers and artists to lend ongoing support to the many victims dealing with the profound damage caused by the recent earthquake. The fundraiser was organized by Marin Horikawa, a design director at JDK, and comprised a two-week-long online auction as well as a live auction.
On Friday, June 24th, JDK Design hosted the live auction at their Burlington, VT café, Maglianero. The turnout was overwhelming, and the café filled up with people who were excited to check out the diverse collection of art before bidding. Professional auctioneers took bids and kept the audience involved and entertained. The overall enthusiastic vibe of the event confirmed Marin Horikawa’s idea that “art, and people willing to extend a hand, can help.”
Art Helps: Japan raised nearly $8,000.00— 100% of which was donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross. Dilation Films was there to capture everything. Watch the video above to see some highlights of the night and check out our previous post for photos and more information.

Burlington, VT— The Last Stand (Again) tournament this past weekend was a blast for all involved. BTV Bike Polo Crew raised $1,100.00 to support the relocation of their waterfront rink.
On Friday, July 8th, registration and pickup commenced at the waterfront. Vermont metal band Spit Jack rocked the Monkey House fundraiser party that night along with Parmaga, Spirit Animal, and DJ Treatz, kicking off the bike polo tournament with dope live music and dancing.
Teams gathered from Ottawa, Boston, NYC, Toronto, Philadelphia, and Montreal on Saturday, July 9th to get in on a round robin, which determined brackets for the Sunday finale. After a solid day’s worth of polo, the teams were happy to kick back and enjoy some grub at Maglianero café. The tournament came to a close on Sunday, July 10th in a fierce double-elimination format, with “Gamma Ray Liotta” coming in 1st, and last year’s defending champs “Fif Round Knockout” placing 2nd.
A special thanks to all who helped raise awareness and support for the BTV Bike Polo crew. This has been their fourth season of regular pickup, and they are hopeful that it won’t be the last. Stay tuned for more info regarding the construction of a new rink!
