On Saturday, June 25^th the “Art Helps Japan” online auction came to a close at 3PM EST, raising nearly $8,000.00—100% of which was donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross.  Art Helps: Japan was a fundraiser organized by Marin Horikawa, a design director at JDK, for our widespread community of art lovers and artists to lend ongoing support to the many victims dealing with the profound damage caused by the recent earthquake.  From June 8^th-25^th, those interested were able to view and bid on the artists’ work in an online auction format at ArtHelpsJapan.com.  The website featured paintings, drawings, photographs, screen prints and more from the likes of Chuck Anderson, Scott Lenhardt, Thomas Campbell, Michael Leon, Tyler Stout, Cody Hudson, Burton Snowboards, and many more.

JDK Design hosted a live auction on Friday, June 24th at their Burlington, VT café, Maglianero. The turnout was overwhelming, and the café filled up with people who were excited to check out the diverse collection of art before bidding. The live auction ran from 8-9PM; within that time, professional auctioneers took bids and kept the audience involved and entertained.  The overall enthusiastic vibe of the event confirmed Marin Horikawa’s idea that “art, and people willing to extend a hand, can help.”

Howlermand Productions and DL4 Musical Enterprises Inc. are now collaborating on a documentary of the band Death, called “Where Do We Go From Here?”. "We couldn’t have been more excited when those guys asked us to play the younger version of our fathers and uncles," said Bobby. "We recently spent an afternoon at Signal Kitchen recording studio here in Burlington, VT, filming a reenactment scene for the documentary in 70’s-era gear." Photographer Sarah Kjelleren was on hand to capture some of the behind-the-scenes moments of the day. The documentary is slated to release in early 2012. Check out photos from the shoot here!

Seedless Summer 2011 Tour with Slightly Stoopid and Rebelution Starting July 21

As part of their regularly occurring "Island Wednesdays," Shwayze & Cisco Adler revealed the album's cover artwork by close friend and artist Ray Pappens. Check it out at Shwayze & Cisco’s website.

Back in early March of 2010, my wife Julie asked me to run the Key Bank Vermont City Marathon with her as a fund raiser for the hospital she works at. It took a little coercing but I agreed to it. Right after our first run I posted something about it on Facebook and I was immediately invited to run the New York City Marathon on behalf of Stoked Mentoring by the groups founder, Steve Larosiliere. Having never really run before, on that particular day, running 26.2 seemed maybe hard but not impossible. I went on to run the half marathon, took a little time off and went on to train for New York.

Stoked is an organization that works with at risk kids providing mentoring through action sports. We were running to raise awareness and money for the group. My company, OKAY!! OKAY!! is a Marketing & Design agency. We thought it’d be cool to design and develop some posters and merch to sell to folks as a way to meet our financial goals. A lot of people got behind my cause and I am very truly grateful. Folks lent their support from all over the world, literally, and I got to experience something truly incredible. 

I really relate to the kids of Stoked. My childhood wasn’t that different from many of theirs and it was action sports that put me on a path to explore the world and ultimately make a career in the culture. I received a lot of support and I want to thank every single person who donated money and or bought something and everyone else who just sent positive energy my way. Believe me, it came in very handy at mile 21. I’m sort of hooked on running now and I hope to beat my time in the next race. For more information about Stoked please visit stoked.org

New York, NY- New York City Photographer and Director, Heidi Hartwig, has released her video for Jordan Galland’s “To The Top.”

Hartwig, known for her portrait work with Rihanna, Sean Penn, and Levi’s, has recently directed her attention to film. Her latest effort is a music video for “To The Top” by musician, filmmaker, and philanthropist, Jordan Galland. The short film is a visually stunning, edgy companion to Galland’s emotive, indie-pop and features model, Aurelie Claudel as a beautiful femme fatale sent on a mission to knock off a list of men who have presumably done wrong.

The film features supermodels Barbara Stoyanoff, Lydia Hearst, and Melissa Brown along with Bananabeat Record’s premiere signee Chris Young The Rapper. The video, which was screened during the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, is a nod to the slasher vigilante genre; it was filmed in the Grindhouse tradition ala Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The bloody Valentine’s event is a well-balanced pairing of gore and tongue-in-cheek humor.
